I stood watching

The dog chases its tail

The dog went

Round and round

The tail went

Round and round

The tail and the dog

Vanished in a swirl.

The dog came

Running back

Stood beside me

Panting hard.

Tongue lolling

Eyes rolling

Laughed up at me.

I tried running

Faster and faster

To catch my heart.

My heart went thumping

Harder and harder

Spinning out of my reach.

Heart stopped dead

I fell down flat.

The dog won this round.
