IIT Kanpur to Lead Showcase on Drone Technology at Mega R&D Fair

The event marks the first coming together of all the 23 IITs under one umbrella to showcase their research and innovation.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, will exhibit 12 critical R&D projects across domains at IInvenTiv, the mega R&D fair of all the 23 IITs, to be held from October 14-15 at IIT Delhi. Besides jointly leading the showcase on 5G technologies with IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur will lead the presentation on drone technology.

‘IInvenTiv’ is aimed at creating holistic awareness around the R&D efforts of the IITs and seeking collaborative avenues among state universities and institutes, industry, and the IITs, for development and reach optimisation. The objective is to promote innovations in line with the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India, besides seeking solutions for better reach and scalability of innovations that benefit the masses.

Organised to commemorate the 75th year of India’s independence, a total of 75 projects by the 23 IITs have been selected for the mega event, along with six showcase projects. The selection includes projects on diverse themes covering climate change, sustainability, smart city architecture, rural agriculture, affordable healthcare, drone technology, 5G technology, etc. The event marks the first coming together of all the 23 IITs under one umbrella to showcase their research and innovation expertise for enhanced awareness.

Prof. Abhishek from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Kanpur, will moderate the ‘Drone Technology Showcase’. He would also highlight how IIT Kanpur is leading as the only institute with expertise in all three UAV types- fixed-wing drones, flapping wing drones, and unmanned rotor-wing/helicopter drones, reads a statement by IIT Kanpur.

Prof. Rohit Budhiraja, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, will jointly lead the ‘5G Technologies Showcase’. The presentation will also highlight India’s 5G rollout and the critical issues at stake.

At IIT Kanpur, we have always had a front-foot approach to research and innovation at the national and grassroots levels. We are glad to be featuring twelve of our projects at IInvenTiv and to lead the drone and 5G technologies showcases,” said Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur.

With 12 selected projects, IIT Kanpur has the highest-approved projects for the showcase at IInvenTiv. It is worth mentioning that IIT Kanpur filed its highest-ever 107 patents (97 national and 10 international) last year. It also boasts of some leading drone startups, such as EndureAir, and VTOL Pvt.
