World Milk Day will be observed on June 1, 2023, and a Summer Meet for the animal husbandry and dairying sector will be held on June 1 and 2, 2023, at the SKICC in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, in cooperation with the Agriculture Production Department of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.

World Milk Day, celebrated annually on June 1, is a global observance established by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2001. Its primary aim is to draw attention to milk’s essential role in our diet by promoting its nutritional value, economic importance, and contribution to sustainable agriculture. As a rich source of vital nutrients like calcium, protein, and vitamins, milk is integral to maintaining good health and growth, especially in children. The dairy industry is also a significant component of the global economy, providing livelihoods to millions, from farmers and small producers to large industrial processors. On this day, activities ranging from farm visits, seminars, milk product exhibitions, and school-based events are organized worldwide to emphasize the importance of milk and dairy products. Through these events, World Milk Day underscores the critical need for sustainable dairy practices to safeguard the industry’s future and our planet.

World Milk Day will provide an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about milk’s nutritional value and benefits, recognize the contributions of dairy farmers, processors, and consumers, and foster meaningful discussions and exchanges of ideas during the summer meet. The objective of the Summer Meet is to draw out the expectations of states and UTs to create a convergence framework for effective programme implementation at the ground level, review the progress of schemes, and discuss outcomes and mid-course corrections. The ministers of State Animal Husbandry across the country will be attending the event along with state AHD officials.

Shri Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying,  will grace the event as Chief Guest in the august presence of Shri Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Minister of State of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

Union Minister Shri Rupala will launch a campaign – Feeding the Future: Five Days of Action for Feed and Fodder and Training of A-HELP for 2023-24.
