Union Health Minister Addresses Roundtable with CEOs of Pharmaceutical Industry

On the second day of the 8th International Conference on Pharma and Medical Device Sector, New Delhi today, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers and Health and Family Welfare Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya presided over a roundtable discussion with the prominent CEOs of the pharmaceutical business in the nation. The Department of Pharmaceuticals’ Secretary, Ms. S. Aparna, was also present.

The Minister praised the industry’s impetus for expansion and said that “the industry is progressing at a rapid rate, and to maintain our stature as the “Pharmacy of the World,” we need to focus on quality and reasonably priced manufacturing with a greater emphasis on research and innovation.” Further saying that “significant investment in Production Linked Incentive schemes as well as upcoming drug parks are bearing fruitful results,” Dr. Mandaviya urged the stakeholders to take advantage of the current opportunity. We must remain competitive to solidify our global position and spur growth.

The Union Health Minister reaffirmed the government’s stance and commitment, saying that “the government is industry-friendly and welcomes opportunities for collaboration.” The government and industry must collaborate to achieve comprehensive growth, both essential to the country’s development.

To facilitate further policy support and growth, Dr. Mandaviya invited the stakeholders to submit their recommendations addressing the issues of pricing, regulations, policy, and strategy, along with the corresponding action points, in a detailed presentation.

To assist policymakers and the government in creating a more robust ecosystem for everyone, Ms. S. Aparna, Secretary Department of Pharmaceuticals, emphasised the potential future growth of the industry and urged the in-attendance representatives to gather and collectively represent their perspectives adhering to the aforementioned four categories.

Senior leadership from approximately 60 companies participated in the roundtable, and several important players were present in both the domestic and foreign markets.
