Awards for Online Competitions on Environment

NEERI organised online competitions for students, teachers and general public on the theme- Me and My Environment.

To keep the science learning going National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) organised online competitions for students, teachers and general public on the theme ‘Me and My Environment: A Lockdown Experience’. More than 10,000 entries in different categories were received from several countries. The competitions included poster/drawing/sketching, write-up/story/poem, photography, short video. Total 10,393 entries were received online including 2500 videos.

In the award function, Dr Shekhar C Mande, Director General, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (DG-CSIR) praised the efforts made to promote science among students and general public.

He said that this is unique initiative undertaken in the lockdown to give a boost to learning of science. The competition was thought-provoking for environment protection, he added.

Each competition had five categories. In the poster/drawing/sketching group category A, B, C, D and E Tanisha Saxena Al Wakrah, Qatar, Amisha Mehmi Punjab, Sheetal Gupta Haryana, Anil Kumar Punjab, and Shovanbhabai Jharkhand are winner of first prize respectively. In write-up/story/poem Ojasav Bhatia, Haryana, Fudail Ahmed Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Akshita Kanna Abu Dhabi, UAE, Mallika Seshadri Tamil Nadu and Mumtaz Abdulla Sharjah, UAE were winners of five categories. Hana Haneefa Ad Dawhah, Qatar, Rida Ravoof Dubai, UAE, Atharva Gijare Maharashtra, Gopal Pandey Sikkim and Kartika Pandey, Delhi are awarded with first prize in photography competition. In the short video category Keertana Nair Abu Dhabi, UAE, Aditya Bhusari, Maharashtra, Kautuk Marolia, Maharashtra, Parveen Jahan, Telangana and Maaz Kazmi form Maharashtra won first prize in five different categories.

These competitions were jointly orgnaised by Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) and NEERI. Jayant Sahasrabuddhe, National Organising Secretary, Vijnana Bharati; Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Director, NEERI; Dr. Rajesh Biniwale, Senior Principal Scientist NEERI; and Naresh Chafekar, Vijnana Bharati, Nagpur were present during the online award ceremony.
